Smoothies are the ultimate on-the-go breakfast - just chuck all the ingredients into a blender, whiz it up, and you're done! Easy as (nutritious) pie.

Berry Greek yoghurt smoothie in a glass topped with berries.

This smoothie blend has been on high rotation lately. The trio of creamy Greek yoghurt, banana and mixed berries make for a seriously delicious smoothie; that provides a good source of protein and energy into the morning.

Greek Yoghurt Lowdown

Greek yoghurt is a type of yoghurt that has been strained beyond what traditional varieties would be, removing the whey (the watery part of milk that remains after milk has been curdled), as well as some lactose (a milk sugar).

This results in a more concentrated thick yoghurt; with less sugar, more protein, and a creamy, tart taste. Another perk – it’s loaded with probiotics, or ‘good’ live bacteria, that like to inhabit the gut, supporting health through a myriad of biological handy work.

Not a Protein Powder in Sight

I like using Greek yoghurt in smoothies, as it’s a tasty and nutritious way to increase the protein content (a macronutrient that helps to keep us feeling full), without always having to default to a protein powder.

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup milk (e.g. almond, rice, oat, dairy…)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ cup frozen mixed berries
  • ½ cup plain Greek yoghurt
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp honey

Method:

  • Add all ingredients into a blender and process until smooth.

Notes:

For a thinner smoothie: Add a bit more liquid until you reach your desired consistency.
Dairy-free or vegan? Substitute for coconut yoghurt – this will lower the protein content and increase the fat content.
